Dear Doug___I have a new to me 1978 Saab 99 2dr. I bought it from the original owner and it has obviously been taken care of. It has 146000 miles showing on the odometer. I bought it for the asking price of $500 just because I trust the previous owners integrity, and the fact that he bought it new in '78. I bought the car 'not running' and the word is that the electric fuel pump conked out 4 years ago and since the previous owner bought another Saab (new also)in 1990 he let the (second) car sit since they hardley used it. I bought a used working, from what the mechanic, a Saab expert told me, electric fuel pump for 150.00 as a new one I'm told is 350.00. Any way I installed the fuel pump and it did not hum. I checked the fuse box and discovered the fuse to be missing. I then attempted to replace the fuse but it blew even with the ignition switch turned to off.I then disconnected the fuel pump electrically and replaced the fuse which also blew.
So here I am in wonderment.Your expertise will be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to my first Saab since I've always admired them. David Krest.
