Actually, for hatchbacks, the 99 body (just the body) is about 100 pounds heavier than the 900. One of the reasons for the 900 was weight reduction. Next time you see a 99 take a look at all of the sheet metal in front. The 99 feels more rigid because it is. Also, on the 99, you don't need to use those annoying blocks under the upper control arms when you do any front end work like changing shocks, etc. The member under the arm is designed to take the spring load. Changing shocks is a 10 minute job.
