Well it can't be the voltage regulator that causes this problem. One of my 99s has had a few different alternators in it (70 amp and 115 amp from a 9000T) and it did it with both of those alternators and the voltage regulators that were in them. My '86 900S recently had the brushes wear out and I've switched the brushes out of the 115A alternator (from my '76 99) when I want to drive it. The 99 has the problem with the light staying on, the 900 doesn't, both cars with the same voltage regulator.
It has to be a problem specific to 99s because owners of other cars that take these voltage regulators don't complain. Someone once mentioned here that the problem is due to a clock that isn't working. I haven't looked at the wiring diagrams or tried anything to correct this problem.
