As someone else mentioned, the engine bay has distinctly different mount points for an AT vs a MT.
It is said that anyone trying to convert from auto to manual may be a bit touched in the head, but it can be done as evidenced by my Sons' 1975 99 that came from the fact with the AT but now has a 79 EMS engine and 4spd in it.
The person we bought the car from had the work doen in PA by his local Saab geek... upon picking up the car, the geek strongly said he should have charged twice the $1k he charged to do the job.
Going year to year may help with a swap to a manual, but there are differences in wiring harnesses and control circuits between an AT and an MT.. my reccomodation is to stick with what it is, or get a manual trnas or get the AT a know that you'vbe got a challenge ahead of you...
