What is normal Compression PSI for a 2.0L 1974 Djet engine?

The mechanic tested and got low compression in the #2 Cly and suspects Rings or a Scored cylinder wall.... althopugh he didn't rule out a valve issue.

I have access ( read for real money) to a known good bottom end for this engine.

Should I replace the bottom end or just get it apart and see about that cylinder/piston rings combo?

The engine has 240,000 miles on it, so bottom end issues are not out of the question.

This car has been a dilema for me for the last two years... I am so tempted to borrow $$ and fix it right, but I know it is not an investment but a labor of love/lust.... Lately I ahve had medical issues that has sucked me dry of the money I was going to put into this car this spring... It is rust free except for the doors, so physically this car is very solid...

advice, ideas??
