Well, here's the story. I sanblasted my calipers and wanted to paint them with POR15 silver before re-building them(and they would never rust again). I headed to my local paint supplier who keeps the stuff on the shelf, but they were closed for the weekend. I stopped at another one of my suppliers and they directed me to a tire store next to them(the tire store was my first job), who they said sold POR15. I stopped in and they only has a few cans on the shelf, as they were no longing stocking the products. One of them was a pint of Factory Manifold Gray, good to 1400 degrees. I figured what the heck, the calipers would look good gray, and give some contrast to the black front suspension. Not to mention I didn't want to have to wait until Monday for the other store to open, so I bought it. I painted the calipers and let them dry overnight, but the paint didn't get hard like their other paint does. It had a velvety texture to it and still felt wet, but was semi-dry. I read the can and it said it would fully cure after reaching temps of 300 degrees, and the brush marks would smooth out and not be noticeable.
Looking back through my receipts for the 75, there was one from 15 years ago when the original owner had the header installed. I thought to myself, damn that's a long time for that header to last. The one I had on my 74 rusted out in four years(Ohio winters and salted roads). The header appeared to still be solid, just having surface rust. So I sanded it down with 80 grit, then brushed the POR15 on it, hoping the header would be protected to buy me another 15 years. After installing the header and getting the engine running, the paint cured and the brush marks blended in nicely. Only time will tell of it's longevity.
I did not paint the rest of the system, but I have heard of others who have done it. The exhaust pipes and muffler still looked new, plus I have an ANSA sport muffler and tail pipe waiting for it when it fianally does rust out.
