What happens to the front end of the car when accelerating? The body lifts and the suspension lowers. If the buffers aren't in place(or worn) to limit the upper control arm movement, the driveshaft(s) will rub.
Look at the pic and tell me there is no way the axle could rub if the buffers were not worn out.
BTW> this is HEAVY acceleration in first gear with good buffers.
