Doug:
>> and the caption in the book said it was a '76GLE).

it certainly is an M77. Is the book really wrong? i will check tonight.
The color was also not available for 76, but it was for 77.

>> and the turn signals are larger
indeed indicates M77 and up, as the 76 GLE version has the small lights.

>> 1977 specs....also noticed the front bumper trim isn't the full chrome strip used on 76's?...

Now that was a GLE feature, already in 1976 model. see picture below of the m76 Europe GLE brochure.

The picture of my 76 GLE I showed in a response above has the wrong bumpers mounted at this point (just like it has the wrong wheels - as the previous owner trashed the old golden rims). Work in progress at the moment ;-)

>> and the sideview mirrors are the '77 variety?...
The sideviews mirrors on the GLE are the same for 76 and 77.

>> but, it has gold soccerballs, which were black in 1977.
They were also gold on the 77 model. The 78 model (5 door hatch only) has the black soccerballs.

An interior difference is that the 76 model has 3 headrests in the rear, and the 77 model just 2. (difference is clearly shown in the 2 respective brochures).
