George, You may have a spun bearing. A main or camshaft, or it could be just the pilot bearing on your flywheel. I had one do just what you've described. I carefully sprayed some lube with straw attached to the can, in short bursts from the pressure plate side, hoping to get lucky. It actually stopped the noise imediatly, and I didn't replace the bearing until a year later, when I replaced the original clutch. You can try the same thing on your clutch throw-out bearing. Try a good lube with teflon instead of WD40, and don't go crazy or your clutch will slip. If it does, sray it with simple green and hose it off. Have you removed the starter and tried jumping it out of the block? Good luck.
