Was wondering if anyone was planning on going to the National convention in September (Hershey, PA). Went to Carlisle Pa - Central Pennsylvania Saab Club show last weekend. I believe there where about 120-130 Saabs present, but only six of those represented the 93, 95,and 96 category, along with two Sonnet's. Weather was not very cooperative, but had a nice time hanging out with fellow Saab'ers. All of this got me excited about the possibility of doing this again in a couple of months.
The Carlisle show of last year, was responsible for getting me interested in buying the Saab that I currently own.
I took my BMW to last years show, and was parked directly across from the Saab club, specifically a restored Bullnose GT. I knew that a 93 or 96 was going to be my next purchase, if I could find a clean one, and started looking immediately after returning from the show.
This year, I was parked directly across from the BMWs, I just switched sides! Still have the BMW (76 530i, fairly rare, and with only 30,000 miles), but the Saab's a hoot to drive. I am now thinking about selling the BMW to buy another 96, or 93. Or, wife permitting, keep the BMW, and still buy the old Saab (probably wishful thinking unless I want to start living in one of these vehicles)
Also, Pittsburgh has the vintage grand prix in July, which is spectacular, and gets about 2500 vintage imports at the car show, as well as the racing that takes place all weekend. I will be taking both cars since I live only 5 miles from the race course. You will see cars there that you will probably not see anywhere else in the country (Lotus, Allard, Osca, ACs, Bugattis, Abart, Morgan, Jag, Panhard and a lot of really weird stuff) This is a premier event that has been going on for about 15 to20 years. This is the nicest import car event that I have ever seen, and can't believe that I live so close.
You/us Saab people are a fun bunch!!!
Best regards, and thanks for everything,
Randy
