I have been having problems with my brakes. After repeated warnings from the brake pedal travel warning sensor on the dash, I decided to replaced my master cylinder with a NIB, NOS 35 year old part that I had purchased for just such an instance. My brake pads and shoes are all new, as are the rear wheel cylinders, and system is bled. (I have the lockheed unit that was only used on the 69/70 model, with the brake booster. After replacement, the pedal would slowly move towards floor even after exhaustive bleeding of brake lines. I think the cups/seals in the cylinder had dried out and hydraulic fluid was seeping around the seals. I could find no leakage anywhere, and no apparent air in lines. I decided to have whitepost restorations rebuild my old MC and not take any chances with the new old part. In the mean time, while waiting for the rebuilt MC, I decided to replace the rear flexible lines that looked like they were probably the originals, with new braided lines that I had bought a while back from Chip Lamb. As usual, and sorry Chip, I do mean as usual, they are the wrong part - bag was marked correctly, but God knows what these things go to. (I'll add them to the other parts that I have no idea what they go to that you sent me, like the fan belt for a Peterbuilt or something that large) The threaded end pieces are shorter than the original lines, and the hard lines will now, not reach - not even close to reaching without modification and welding to the support bracket that holds the threaded end of the flexible line at the junction to the steel, hard line from the wheel cylinder (mounted on the top side of the rear axle). I called Jack Ashcraft, and he feels he has the correct flexible rear lines with the longer threaded shaft, and they are on their way. If for some reason none of this works, is there a company that can make me new, modified and slightly longer hard lines from the flexible line to the rear wheel cylinder? I do not have the equipment to make double flare at one end, and a bubble flare at the opposite end as needed for this section of line. I have called a few auto parts stores in my area, and a few gas stations also. None will make them or know who will.
Any other advice on the above topic would be appreciated, and thanks as usual for all of your help. Sorry if some of the above came off as being sarcastic, I am just a little upset after spending a lot of money on an NOS MC, and braided brake lines, only to have to spend more money to get my old one MC rebuilt and new flexible brake lines AGAIN! so far almost $700 and I still can't drive the car. I'm learning the hard way - with my wallet.
