I didn't see any other responses, but don't know if anyone else responded personally.
The SAAB gas tank has baffles in it and thus is a bear to properly clean. Unlike my vBUG (59) tank which is just a single big chamber and was very easy to de-crud, there's no real good way to restore an old vSAAB tank without getting INTO it. Although I balked at the high cost ($300), I had my tank cut open and completely refurbished, then welded back again. Turns out it was the right thing to do... the crud and scale inside would never have come out with any chemical treatment or chain rattling. Now I have a perfectly "new" tank and no worries.
A poor second alternative might be to try to clean it out with solvents and chains (to knock debris loose) and then use one of the POR-15 products to seal the remainder, but it will always be a question mark...
