no nuetral?

I can't hit nuetral on my 68 96. It still wants to move or make a loud banging noise. In reverse it bucks, and clanks. If I can get it in gear it works ok. Any hints? Every once in a while I can get nuetral and can realease the clutch without a problem.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
