Folk lore and tuning advice on Solex carbs ( and other carbs ) on 2-strokes. often mention when jetting is correct for performance and spirited use and racing, that when in first gear, when not fully having your boot into it, as it winds up, at 4 grand and above with 1/3 throttle, the motor just "blubers".This condition was described as one way that you have the stroker
mixture in the ball park for performance jetting. Having tried many main jet combinations upwards to 145, I had not heard nor felt this condition. What I did try after finding some solex theory in an ancient Chiltons from 1962 was
air correction jet information. I put in 180 jets from 62-64 GT carbs and found bluber and whole lot more willingness and power to reach the redline in 2nd, 3rd , and fourth. On the steepest long hill near my house my stroker visible accellerated up this hill in fourth. Previously I could only gain .5 MPH , this time i gained 4 MPH. We all know there is the supply main jet filling the well below the emulsion tube tower, but the air correction jet fine tunes the amount of fuel being pulled out of the tower. a 200 jet is so big of an opening on top of the wet emulsification tube that it nullifies the venturi vacume that is supposed to pull the fuel out of the tower. I found 200 190 and 180 air correction jets in my colection of spares. Any comments welcome. Don.
