I'll be sure to remember that an AC with a Ford engine is not a classic. Neither is an Allard with a Cadillac engine.
But then it was only the actual transplants that made those combinations "classic". The cars were next to insignificant before someone bastardized them with an unintended power plant.
Following that train of thought, a fire pump engine not a suitable power plant for a Cooper Formula 1 race car.
Is putting a four stroke four cylinder tractor engine (hardly "soul") into a SAAB, where a two stroke triple had been, also heresy? Saab does it and you call it "classic". They can similarly put an Opel sourced diesel into a 9-3 and make a "TID".
But I can't switch engines without tarnishing your image of some car maker that was never as good as it now used to be?
Or is it merely the size of the firm doing the transplant give the swap legitimacy in your eyes?
