Hi Jerry,
Here's my Royal Order of Loudness List (ROLL):
Stock
Simmonds
MSS Two Glass Pack
MSS One Glass Pack
How much louder is the MSS Two Glass Pack than stock?? Hmmm... tough question. I suppose I could run a sound meter and measure the decibel level and give you some real data, but all my VSaabs are sleeping for the winter (-5 F this morning coming to work, with probably 10 inches of snow on the ground). Subjectively, I'd have to say the MSS-2 is significantly louder than stock, and it does get louder over time. With the MSS-1, my wife can hear me a mile away as I downshift before a corner and then accelerate through it. MSS-2 isn't nearly as loud. MSS-1 has a significant SNAP and BURBLE on deceleration; not with MSS-2. The Simmonds on my 96 doesn't sound any different inside the car, but has a nice mellow tone from outside and to the rear of the car. How else can I describe it? A 2 hour trip with the MSS-1 gets fatiguing, not so much with the MSS-2.
Bottom line (and I'll stop rambling)- if you want a bit more performance over stock, but little increase in noise, go Simmonds. If you can deal with the sound of a moderately loud motorcycle when you get on it, go with the MSS-2. If you want every head to turn as you drive, go MSS-1. For me, any new exhaust would be the MSS-2.
Hope this helps in some little way...
Eric in Vermont
