Hey Guys,
I've got a 32/36 on the motor in my red 96. The motor itself has a 1700 crank, larger pistons, a Jack L. street cam, larger valves, and lightened flywheel. I took the initial carb settings from Jack A's book 'The Total Performance V4' then tuned from there using a wide band A/F meter. I would say that they are a good place to start. They are as follows:
1 jet = 135
2 jet = 140
1 e-tube = F5
2 e-tube = F16
1 air correcter = 160
2 air correcter = 190
1 idle jet = 50
2 idle jet = 65
pump discharge = 50
(My notes say that in a phone conversation with Mr. Ashcraft in 2005 he
recommended I start with 145 jets in both 1 and 2 and then work back from there. That's what I did and it worked well without the danger of lean burning a new motor.)
I ended up using the setup as above except with 1 and 2 jets both at 140. This has worked well for my motor. I could probable lean it out a bit more but I'd rather have a sightly rich motor that lasts longer then a lean one I burn up.
Hope this helps,
Jonathan
P.S.
I'm not sure about how the rules in your division restrict what mods you make to the motor, but Jack Lawrence's intake is fantastic. It's really well engineered and delivers great performance. If I was starting again that's the set up I would use.
