I have a 1969 model 96 that I've owned for a few months. The passenger door opens and closes smoothly and quietly. The driver's door has always had a loud snap when it opens. I finally took off the door panel and looked inside. I found that the bar running from the car enters the door and at the end has a sprocket over which a rod that is attached to the door crosses. This keeps the door opened when it is opened far enough. The load snapping I've been hearing is when the bar crosses the sprocket it snaps down on the other side. When the door is fully opened, and I start to close it, the bar crosses over the top of the sprocket and snaps down on the other side. The snapping is really loud and annoying. I've tried to lubricate everything real well, but that didn't make an appreciable difference. Any suggestions?
