Tom,
In my opinion, you already have all you need to provide a good hot spark to your engine. Read notes of my experiences above, perhaps there will be something of value. I replaced the Bosch coil that came with my car with an identical model (I now doubt there was anything wrong with the original). This is the common Bosch 00012 Blue Coil:
available on Amazon at:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CO4WA2/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B001CO4WA2&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork
Note, these coils already have internal ballast resistor, so if your car has the original external ceramic rectangular resistor, just bypass it, and then make sure you have polarity correct (the MINUS terminal on the coil is the one that goes to the distributor (or Pertronix trigger wire)
Don't be afraid to experiment with ignition timing a bit. I am running a good bit more advance than factory specs, and the car is very happy with this (my car came with "locked" and disabled vacuum and centrifugal advance, so there is no change in advance with engine speed or load.. I don't understand how this could work, but it seems to be common wisdom, and it works fine on mine)
I don't represent myself as a Saab expert.. it's all trial and error, but I seem to have found the combination that works great, finally. My little 96 will hum down the road at 70-75 with no effort.
good luck with it,
Phil - austin
