Heya fellas!
Do you guys care to start a dialog on a theoretical build or builds even (hopefully with part numbers!) and what they can or cannot possibly achieve? It should be fun right?! Especially helping me burn through stacks of cash!! ;)
I would like to start a detailed build sheet and break it down by assembly, heads, bottom etc. But first I think it may be best to gather part numbers for some big ticket items so I can get those out of the way. Any proven part numbers for forged pinto pistons? Anyone looked into aftermarket rods such as Carrillo, Scat etc? I want this baby to hopefully turn 8k+ and stay together doing it! Part numbers for mustang valves that work (44/38), springs, retainers etc?
I would just buy heads or have have my VW/Euro machine shop/builder build them out but that defeats my purpose entirely. I want to build this thing myself (with proper guidance of course) so I know every square mm, will have exact idea of each prep after a few tear downs etc etc. I do have full access to any machining I need to do with proper guidance to get me going. So this is why I want to plan a comprehensive build sheet and compile all the necessary part numbers. Also, so it's out there for others. Based on my searches, it appears most info is just not there, outdated etc. Plus I want to develop my own parts catalog based on my racing efforts. No offense meant in any way to either of the Jack's but Lawrence is getting pretty up there in years and from what I can tell, Ashcraft seems like he's been doing this for a very long time and we all know that can lead to burn out. Plus my parts will SOLELY be backed by racing. No restore, maintenance etc and I think there's always a little more room in that niche without overlap.
What do you guys think? I just got back from Thanksgiving, went to spend a week with my grandpa who had a nasty fall and now has a new shoulder thanks to a lot of titanium! He's getting very old and starting to have lots of health problems but this is right up his alley! So one main goal is for this to pull him, my father and I back together before he passes as all outer relationships have been very strained for way to long unfortunately...
Anyway, I apologize for the long message! I just want everyone to understand the multi level importance of this build and the things to come along with it! I thank you all *so* much for ALL your time as well as ANY information, specifications, part #'s or advice you can provide!!! It means more than you know to 3 generations of my family (with an upcoming 4t)!!
