V-4 Water Pump Replacement
Posted by Tom Shehan [Email] (more from Tom Shehan) on Sat, 17 Nov 2018 13:29:56
Based on some earlier posts I have been putting off replacing the leaking water pump on my 1973 V-4… It seemed like it was going to be a tough job in tight quarters. Actually, it was relatively easy.
1. Disconnect the battery
2. Remover the front grill
3. Drain the radiator
4. Remove the alternator and brackets
5. Remove the front Spark Plug (for better access)
6. Remove the upper bypass hose from the rear of the Water Pump
7. Remove the lower radiator hose.
8. Remove the large 1 inch hose at the rear of the pump.
9. Use a 10mm socket and a mini ¼ inch swivel ratchet to remove the 5 bolts from the rear of the WP and remove the old pump. A long 10mm socket would make it even easier.
10. Clean, replace the pump and put everything back in place.
Found the water pump online for 45.00 including the front gasket.
