Hi all,
So I recently installed a new fuel system and I was having problems when the car would first start. It would rev up and almost die. I then checked the new filter and electric fuel pump for any problems. I tested it by cranking the engine and filling a bottle with the fuel right behind the pump. The First time it was barely pushing any fuel through the line as also the second test, but the third test it freed up and pushed "Normal amounts" through. Now I'm having the problem that my engine is running very rich. Exhaust smoke is has hints of black, it doesn't idle very well and has a large loss in power. I also pulled the plugs, and they have a lot of carbon build up. So I tried loosening up the fuel pressure regulator behind the fuel rail while the car was idling to try to make the mixture more lean. Unfortunately, I heard no difference in the idle or saw no difference in the exhaust smoke color. I also tried tightening it and had the same result.
My question is:
Does this sound like my FPR is clogged up (Its fairly new). If so how do I test this?
Could it be that my Fuel Pump is too strong and the FPR can't decrease the pressure at the Fuel Rail enough. (It is a civic fuel pump and is over spec.)
Is this possibly an injector problem or maybe a plug problem(They all seemed fine)
Thanks so much!I looking forward to hearing back from you guys!
Leon
