Thanks Eric, but no reply from Chuck in over a week.
I have reviewed my SAAB Service Manual and the vintage SAAB Parts Manual here on Saabnet. Not all engines were equipped with the same Temp thermostat, or even any thermostat! Yes, cars sold in hot climates were equipped with a hollow metal tube in place of the standard thermostat and were devoid of both a heater and a defroster.
Since my car is a competition car without heater or defroster, and since the pump and thermostat are located such that the thermostat does not provide the flow control needed on all pump discharges, there is no need to have a thermal element within my thermostat's cylindrical body.
Therefore, I will create one of the nearly mythical, empty shell, Red body competition 'stats for my car.
