No, not a "can't win" situation but I was just agreeing with Chris that it seems so easy for companies to absorb things and them claim them for themselves, it happens all the time*. Saab isn't stricly speaking GM heritage, regardless of whether they own them or not. If you adopt a child you don't own its past even though it becomes a member of your family...
Personally I think a Saab is more than pastiche styling and brand marketing. Until GM was involved no Saab was a pastiche of its predecessor (NG 900) and no design committee sat around a table listing all the things they thought made a Saab a Saab (9-5). To paraphrase an old saying, I may not be able to explain to you what one is, but I d*mn well know one when I see one.
If you want a debate then explain how Saab 900s go from having enough room inside for tall people to not...
Incidentally the new S-Type Jaguar is the same type of design concept as the 9-5, so this is the 'way forward'.
*And if you want a REAL debate; you Americans don't own the past of the land you live in ;)
Now I'll wait for the abuse...
