The run on sounds like you might have a carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Excessive carbon can get red hot act like a glow plug and cause backfiring and run-on. It can also act like incorrect timing. You mention changing the points condenser and coil and having it act up in 10 miles. That's about enough time to get a carbon buildup hot enough to start making mischief. excessive pinging on acceleration is also a symptom.
If all else has failed it may be time to pull the head and send it to the machine shop. A wooden instrument can be used to scrape any carbon off the piston crown.
Has the engine ever been rebuilt?
