If I am understanding you correctly, you're referring to the rear parcel shelf. If that's so, then yep, Saab designed it to be completely removeable to aid in getting things in and out of the rear, and to create more usable space when the seats are folded down. You may notice that the parcel shelf can actually be rotated upwards, then latched in a little clip on the hatch... This prevents you from actually having to remove it completely when loading the rear end. On occasion, this clip goes MIA, however - if so, you should be able to find one in a junkyard.
