If you have a manual, it describes all the motions needed, and in fact
suggests that you remove the enngine and trans as one unit. I have pulled
several trans, both two stroke and v-4 and they are essentially the same
there are only 3 or 4 more operations to get everyting loose from the tranny after you get the engine ready to remove. 1)speedo cable, 2)the
univ. joint connection from the gear shift lever,<take the nut off one side
put it on the other and screw the retaining bolt out>, 3)the little wire rod from the freewheeling handle inside the cabin. 4)Last bu not least,
the big bolt at the rear of the trans, that you have to pull the floor boards back and remove a cardboard cover, (usually) to unscrew the one
bolt that serves as the trans mount and 3rd motor mount. Pulling the eng/trans as a unit lets you put off standing on you head to remove all the
bolts holding the eng to the trans until you have it out in the open and
can get to it. My one bad experience: When I tried to pull the trans out of
a 73 parts car from Minnesota, that had been sitting for ten years, and had
250K on the clock; after i removed the rear bolt, the trans simply would not come loose from the rubber mounting there. I ended up setting fire to the rubber mount itself and burning the surrounding rubber until enough of
it disintegrated that a neighbor and i using crobars got it loose finally.
but then 1 out of 10 isnt bad odds! Good ALuck
