Mike and Johnson, I think if you had the same problem Aaron mentioned, you would realize it soon. That may be your problem Mike. Johnson, I remember an odd problem I had years ago with a Nissan doing the same thing for me. It turned out to be the engine ground strap. I would try this.....Remove the instument cluster mounts, and put a meter lead on the temp gauge, and see what your getting for a signal as you go through the temp stages. Also try adding a ground to the cluster at this point. They are never in place, but there is a ground strap to the frame for the clusters. When does the cooling fan kick in? If you perform the cooling fan ground check, does it still perform this way? If you were having a real red zone issue for years, you would have mechanical failure by now. I would look at all possible grounds and any other one I could find as well.
