modifications could be mild.... Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Sun, 28 Jul 2002 22:40:30 In Reply to: Thanks guys, one more question..., Chris in AK, Sun, 28 Jul 2002 14:33:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 76 distributor could have the same hold down as the 79(check it out). Mods to it won't have to be done if the hold down brackets are the same. Also double check the gearing from 76 to 79 for the distributor drive. The 79 is 12 cog and the 76 might be 8 cog. This change, if needed is just a matter of knocking out a pin and changing the gear and lower end.
Also check the way the heads are compartmented where the thermostat housing bolts to(3 bolts). I solved this issue by using an earlier head(74) on the 79 block so the thermostat housing wouldn't be an issue(the blocks are almost identical).
Another thing I vaguely recall is I had to change the clutch/timing cover to a later one. Might not be an issue with you because my slave cylinder is external and the 76's is not(I had to use the cover from a later slave set-up)
Why is the 76 head toast?
