Hello,
Boy do I have a funny story to tell. I am currently reparing my 1975 99 hatchback to be worthy of both inspection and my senior year of High school.
One of the few problems that must be fixed is that tricky little circular object mounted under the hood on the upper portion of the right side wheel well that is supposed to emit sound when pressing tabs located on your steering device.....the gosh didley dang horn
At first I thought it was the old original 99 steering wheel that didn't seem to work. So I installed a newer 900 steering wheel (after removing a small black tab from the rear mounting area of the actual wheel, probably some new fangled 900 idea) and pushed on the one of the horn buttons.
This is where it gets funny.....my "horn" sqweaked the squeak of a dying common finch.... I was soo very "let down" by my not fixing the situation that I madly pressed those little tabs as hard as I could...then got a friend of mine to start hitting the little annoyance...and for a brief second it let out the squeal of a proud pissed off Trollhatten motorist.....but then died....throughout all this..I made another discovery.... with the hum of the electronics in my car going (the motor is off) there is a strange mechanical noise behind me, like a metalic "pfft" if you will, assuming this is the fuel pump I didn;t acknowledge it after the next discovery(or problem);.... when the horn button is depressed my tachometer revs up to about 5k RPM then evens out at 3k, and when released it drops down to its normal off postion....what is up with that! it scared the hell out of me at first, but then I couldn't stop laughing and kept playing with it to see if I could red line the thing....
Last but not least...I have come to the conclusion that I need a new horn...duh...will any ol' horn suffice? the 99 horn on my car at the moment has two wires running into it...and has hookups much like a car speaker with the two metal tabs...someone told me that most horns only have one wire running directly into the horn itself...could I place one of these one wire wonders into my car?
well thanks for your time..all help is appreciated,
DAn
