If there is no structural rust at suspension connection points, and other critical places (i.e. engine mounts, doors, frame) it might be worth a bid- Floor pans, (assuming it is isolated) can be re-welded. Again, I say I dont know anything about the 96, but these rules apply to all old cars. Search it over thouroghly before making any decisions. Poke everything with a screwdriver to test the metal. If it is worth a few hundred, it will still cost into the thousands if you want to rebuild it right. I say if you want one badly, get one down in washington state, where rust is not a huge issue, and rent a wheel dolly for $30 a day to drive it back. Not hard to find down here either. Easier to start with a clean body, and a blown engine.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
