Disconnect and clean battery posts and cables. Also shine up the other end of the cables. Check acid level in battery. With everything off (close doors so dome lights are off), disconnect the positive battery cable and use an amp meter to see if there is a current between the positive battery post and disconnected positive cable. If there is then you have a short somewhere and may be able to locate it by pulling one fuse at a time until the current flow stops.
If your alternator light even glows then you are probably ready for a new set of brushes in the alternator.
