I don't think it matters a lot where you put it, as long as you have one. The winner of the 99 class, at the SOC 2000, which I bought shortly after the convention, turned out to have a seized fuel accumulator, that I had to change. The car would run perfectly, as long as the tank was at least 3/4 full, but with 1/2 or less, it wold cut out when you turned, as you probably already have experienced.
