Saab 'factory' A/C (actually dealer-installed) WAS available on the later 95 and 96 models -- I've seen two 96es so equipped. The compressor was a US-sourced York piston type and was mounted on the driver's side as with the Sonett. I don't remember where they put the condenser. The interior fittings consisted of a plastic housing that ran along the bottom of the dash and provided two extra air outlets at the ends and the two-knob control panel in the middle. One important mechanical difference is that Saab learned that the extra load of the compressor shortened the life of the already-kinda-dodgy fiber timing gear, so the A/C kit included a cast-iron version.
Obviously the easiest way to snag all these pieces would be to track down a scrap car that had A/C originally, although there are a lot of better components available now (especially compressors) so you might want to use the original setup merely as "inspiration" and go on from there.
