Sounds as if the problem occurs when you are adding electrical demand on a hot day - Perhaps some near-short condition, OK when cool, not so good when hot - and added electrical demand is too much? Can you check voltage, etc. when ambient temp is very hot and you start to use the top, or as the fan kicks in? Transients can be a pain to find.
Also, have you posted on the 900 boards (C900, NG-900)?
