Hey Carolina Saaber's
It was suggested to me that some might be close enough to be interested in a saab drive that a bunch of us are planning for September 18th. It is GA based but north so for folks close enough to the GA Mountains, please feel free to join us for the day. Below outlines the course. We are meeting in the morning at the Clayton Cookie Jar for breakfast in Clayton, GA which is about 40 minutes from the SC line. I know you guys have a bunch of events coming up but just thought I'd throw it out there for those who'd like another day with a bunch of saab geeks. We've got about 9-10 already confirmed for the day so a decent size group to start with. Feel free to join us for a leg of the drive and bail from there or for the whole day.
You can e-mail if you have any questions.

OK, here’s the plan for Sat September the 18th. For those of us who want to meet in Atlanta and caravan up, we’re going to meet at the same Denny’s we met at last time, no later than 6:30. The train pulls out at 6:30! Denny’s is at 5534 Jimmy Carter Blvd (Norcross), which is just off of the exit from I-85 to the east.
For those who want to or need to blow past Denny’s or are coming from the north...We’ll regroup for breakfast at 8:30 at a place in Clayton, GA called The Cookie Jar. We’ve never been to this place so don’t know exactly what we’re in for. We called them and they said they’d be happy to have us!! The Cookie Jar is at:
Cookie Jar Cafe
621 Highway 441 South Suite 1
Clayton, GA 30525
706-782-6810
This is on 441, which is right on the main drag through Clayton, but we’re not sure exactly where….keep your eyes open. If you want to skip breakfast, try to arrive at the cookie jar no later than 9:30.
Lastly, let’s bring as many walkie-talkies as we can so we can all be in communication along the way. The drive is approx 200 miles, so block out the day…but you should be home in plenty of time for dinner.
Have fun and drive safe and within the limits of your car and skill!!!
After Breakfast
Leg #1: ATL to Clayton
1: Start out going North on JIMMY CARTER BLVD NW/GA-140 toward OAKBROOK PKWY NW. 0.1 miles
2: Merge onto I-85 N/GA-403 N toward GREENVILLE. 14.0 miles Map
3: Take the I-985 N/LANIER PKWY exit- exit number 113- on the left toward GAINESVILLE. 0.2 miles
4: Merge onto GA-365 N. 44.2 miles
5: GA-365 N becomes US-23 N/US-441 N. 31.2 miles
Keep going, going, going on 23/441 north until you get to Clayton
Leg #2: Clayton to Helen
1: From Clayton head west on US route 2/76
This may be indicated as towards Hiawassee
2: Approx 10 miles west of Clayton turn left (south bound) on SR 197
This may be indicated as towards Batesville. The turn will be shortly after crossing over a finger of lake burton.
3: Approx 10 miles later, Turn Right (northwest bound) on SR 356
This may be indicated as towards Helen. Note, if you actually get to Batesville, you’ve gone too far on 197.
4: SR 356 will wind its way approximately 10-15 miles to Helen.
Leg #3: Helen to Choestoe
1: Once in Helen, Turn northbound on SR 17/75
This may be indicated as towards, Hiawassee.
If you joined the drive from the north and want to call it a short day, this may be a good jump off point. Just keep heading north on 17/75 to Hiawassee…you’re on your own!
2: Approx 10 Miles north of Helen, Turn left (westbound) on SR 180
This may be poorly marked and doesn’t appear to be towards anything!
3: Approx 6 miles into SR180, the road splits north and south. The northbound leg is indicated as “Spur 180” the southbound is just 180. Continue South on SR 180. This may look like a left hand turn. Arrive Choestoe approx 10 miles later.
Leg #4: Choestoe to Dahlonega
1: From Choestoe, continue west on 180. 180 will quickly run into US 19/129/11. Turn left, southbound, on US 19/129/11.
This is probably indicated as towards Dahlonega.
If you joined the drive from the north, this may be a good opportunity to jump off and head back north. Turn right on 19/129/11 towards Blairsville instead of left towards Dahlonega..
2: Continue approx 10-15 mi on US 19/129/11 until near “Turners Corner” Turn right on US 19/9/60
This is probably indicated as towards Dahlonega.
3: US 19 will wind its way Down to and Thru Dahlonega (approx 15 mi) and eventually intersect with GA400.
Leg #5: Dahlonega to Atlanta
1: continue thru Dahlonega on US 19. Approx 6 miles south of Dahlonega, 19/60 will intersect with 400. Turn Right on GA 400.
This is the GA 400 we all know and love and will run straight all the way back to ATL (approx 50 miles to 285)
