It is a fantastic car. I drove an Aero and I did fall in love with it. And if it were me buying- I would definitely get the Aero. But I am not even thinking tiwce about it. SAAB's have always had poor resale value compared to similar brands. I would think a 2011 will take a huge hit- even considering the steep discounts. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time- strongly consider it. If you are in it for the short term- I would think REAL hard.
Other things I would consider(and more important to me, than the cost or resale):
A) How many existing SAAB dealers will remain in business to service the car- as well as older SAAB models? Who else will be able to fix it?
B) Third party warranties can be good. Do you have to pay up front and get reimbursed? What is the coverage as compared to a typical SAAB warranty from the past.
C) Since this is a new model- will the service providers have the knowledge and training to fix the car, special tools, diagnostic equipment, software, etc.
D) Parts availability. This might be the largest thing to consider. There must be a huge number of parts unique to this model. I don't believe Non-OEM parts manufactures will be support a vehicle of such low volume. And who will manufacture new OEM SAAB parts? Will someone buy out the parts business and continue selling? Will GM see an opportunity? Let's not even go there.
Best of luck with your decision and potential purchase.
