gear shifting problems - clutch or cable?

I have a 95 900 SET with 96000m.
In recent days the car has developed gear shifting problems. When its warmed up it has real trouble going into reverse and once that becomes a problem the other gears seize up also. Once engine is off and cooler it returns to normal. Is this the clutch or cable? Other posts suggest that grinding gears is a symptom of a worn clutch and shifting becomes more difficult. But, I would have thought that a worn clutch would mean difficulty with acceleration due to slippage - does it affect gear change as well? Could it just be a cable problem?
Advice gratefully received.
Geoff
The car had a gearbox rebuild and updated shift linkage at 36000m, along with new clutch, so its not that (plus it does not pop out of reverse).
