Good question, I wont take this time to trash other car manufacturers. They all have their pros and cons. Price, reliability, longevity... It realy depends what you are looking for in a vehicle. However, I would not compair a Saab to a scion. First off, your compairing a car maker who has been making cars for 30 years to a fairly new brand. I will say that Saab has spent the duration of their existance perfecting then re-perfecting their lines of cars. The NG900 is arguably their strongest line.

Let me tell you how Saab has treated me...

1986 900 - drove it reliably with no major repairs to 240,000 miles.

1988 9000 Turbo - Great car, still have it. It is at 186,000 miles and still going strong. I have put around $600 dollars total into it over 4 years.

1995 900s - This car just hit 190,000 miles. Drive it every day. Has had issues over the 4 years I have had it but nothing unexpected in a 9 year old high milage car.

1999 9-5 - Only owned it for 6 months. At 89,000 miles. I love this car. Did not brake the bank to purchase either. You can find a solid 2000 or 2001 9-5 with fairly low milage for around 10 grand. Well worth it.

My sugestion is to continue your research. Go out and DRIVE them. Drive a Honda, then a Nissan, then a scion them go slide into a Saab 9-5 and your questions will be answered....
