I finally got around to fixing my leak at exactly the same place (nice picture btw) a couple of weeks ago, to find that the o-ring my dealer ordered was of no use. There's just a compression-fit metal plug, held in place by a semicircular metal cover.
What makes it a little tricky is that the plug cover is held in place by two tamper-resistant Torx T40 bolts (at least it was on my 96 SET conv.). So no luck on using standard Torx bits to get it off.
See the link below for the thread with the details, but essentially after ordering the 1/4" bit set (very inexpensive -- in the thread I posted a link to the company where I got mine), I pulled the cover off and coated the metal plug with some RTV sealant, then buttoned it back up.
The plug was the easy part, relative to getting the valve cover back on fitted with a new gasket set. I have *never* had this much trouble with a valve cover gasket before. Permatex is your friend!
