In best case scenario you just need to replace a twist rod behind the A/C control panel that transfer the turning motion you do with the knob into the A/C housing and all the air doors.
Or even better scenario, only replace the knob on the facia since that one breaks too.
That plastic rod have a tendency to break since all the air doors/flaps are heavy to operate.
For a professional it is not that difficult to replace but could be tricky for someone not knowing exactly where the rod fits in.
It is possible to do it by removing the radio and cage but as I said it is a matter of working blindly and just use your finger tips.
The other way is to remove the A/C panel and radio, still tricky but possible.
