Per---
If you want a coupe, then you have no worries about the V6--the coupe only came in two flavours---the S with a 2.3 litre naturally aspirated 4, or the SE, with the 2.0 litre turbocharged 4. I have a heavily modified '95 900 SEt that I absolutely love. She has 253,000 miles on her, and the old 2.0 litre had 232K on it when we pulled it and installed a 2.3 litre turbo out of a less fortunate 9K last year. There's nothing wrong with the 2.0---as a matter of fact, it's sitting pickled in a crate, waiting for me to buy another NG that might need an engine.
Yeah, maintenance is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Take care of your Saab and it will take care of you. Follow the maintenance reccomendations in the owner's manual, and stay away from dealers. These cars are getting older, and the older they get, fewer folks bring them back to the dealer. Therefore, techs don't see them and "forget" their quirks and foibles. My dealership experiences have not been good, which is why I found an independent Saab shop owned and operated by one of the best (if not the best) Saab mechanics on the East Coast. Your best best is to find an indie and stick with him.
Good luck---my bet is that if you buy a well maintained SE-t, you'll fall in love with it.
