How a manufacturer deals with problems can make a huge difference to the owners (so can user groups like saabnet).
When I bought my car in 1996, the talk was of repairing and maintaining the C900 series, not cars one and two years old. 8 years later I don't think Saab owes me much except for answering an occasional support call to the 800 number.
There seem to be large numbers of relatively new 9-3s with early failures of parts that lasted much longer on the NG900 (like DICs at 20k miles, or even 17k). Head bolts and gaskets at less than 60k miles (!) I honestly think those people should get REALLY good treatment from Saab, regardless of the cars being in or out of warranty when that happens.
Viggen owners who bought those cars new paid a large premium over a 900 or 9-3. If makers of a high value product do not treat their customers accordingly, the image of the product suffers.
