Correction, the people that designed WIS, VADIS, JTIS Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Sun, 30 Jan 2005 14:08:08 In Reply to: The WIS is DREADFUL!, Bruce, Sun, 30 Jan 2005 11:20:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab TIS, EPC/EAC, STP and MP, BMW ETK/TIS, VW/Audi ETKA/EPC and Mercedes programs didn't have a clue about the standard used in many other programs.
Those are so far the programs that I have had a chance to look at and use a little.
Alldata and Mitchell on demand are two others that are difficult to use.
Each and every program demands that you use it a lot so that you "by heart" find your way through the menus back and forth.
None of those programs listed are using anything similar to each other so it is a new journey in every one of them.
Each program have it's own little gold nugget here and there so if you could combine all the nuggets into one program it would be really good.
I think by far the one I like the best is Saabs parts catalog, EPC. It is not the same maker as for Saabs WIS and uses a really cool part number search function where you can take the P/N and it gives you all model/years where this part is used and just by a double click it takes you to that year/model/parts page.
In Volvos VADIS program, you first need to decide on year/model/engine/fuel system before you can search for the part by number. If that specific choice you made doesn't have that part you need to try with another model.
And only a few of the programs allow "cut and paste" function.
Saab WIS has a search function but it can be difficult to use. As for the clicking noise I don't know what that could be? I don't have it on my two computers even with the speakers turned on.
It's plenty of hot links all over, like the grey/yellow arrows to bring up new pictures or the blue arrow to take you to a sub page or the little "screen minimize" symbol that takes to you a related electrical wiring diagram.
I think Volvo VADIS is the worst with a 4Gig program where lots of space is used because they use real pictures taken out of the old fashioned workshop manuals with all the quality deterioration that brings and with tons and tons of text of general warnings like they want to be able to take one guy from the street, put him in front of the computer and from that he will be able to repair Volvos all day long, instead of cutting all the bull and make the program aimed toward a proffessional Volvo mechanic.
Yeah, it is a big world out there with many makers.
