Turbo gauge stopper working.

Driving Sunday, my turbo gauge suddenly stopped working. I noticed it will accelerating from a stop. The neddle suddenly spiked past then end of the red section, hung there for a second as I hit the clutch to shift, and returned to below the green section. After that the neddle stopped working. Car drives fine. It feels like the turbo itself is still working.
Any thoughts on what happened and what failed? Do I need to replace the gauge or a sensor?
Thanks in advance.
