manual boost controllers? do they work?

I own a 1997 9000 2.3LPT (170hp) and are interested in installing a valve on the wastegate hose off the BPC so increase the boost to about 14-15psi. Has anyone installed a manual boost control device on their SAAB, if so what are the results.
