Taming the whale

I was seriously considering retiring the much maligned giant whale remote on my '99 9-3 in favor of a swankier all-in-one '01 model until I realized the wait and the price. They've only just become available here in TX, and IMHO, they're not worth the $175 premium. (Hey, I'm cheap when it comes to stuff that may increase ownership satisfaction, but doesn't really enhance the driving pleasure at all.)
My jury-rigged El Cheapo solution, keeping in mind that the size of the key/remote combo is compounded by the fact that they will not 'lay' together on one keyring: Just attach a short (1.5"), thin (14ga) length of chain b/w two very small keyrings, and attach one keyring to the whale and one to the key. Also, use a 'push to seperate' latch b/w your Saab keyset and the rest of your keys so that you can leave the rest of your keys in the locked glovebox or trunk 'til you need them. As I generally only use my non-car keys to get into either my house or my office, I just leave 'em in my laptop bag or briefcase or whatever. With the whale not sharing a ring with any actual keys, the overall, ahem, indecency of carrying your pride and joy (Saab keys, remember)in your pocket is greatly reduced.
