Where do these tennis balls go?

Our '00 Viggen is at 2500 miles and is beginning to develop the typical rattles - glove box, front speaker and rear seat. I've decided to declare war on them this weekend, so I need some advice.
The glove box was easy - a few felt stickers did the trick - and the speaker grille should be no problem once I figure out how to take it off - any hints?
The rear seat, though is driving me nuts.
There are two rattles back there. This first is in the lower seat - I've heard that wedging some tennis balls in there somewhere will work, but I can't figure out where they go. Has anyone tried pulling the pins that hold the seats on and wrapping them? That seems like a more permanent solution. I don't know why Saab didn't put a sleeve on those things - seems pretty obvious.
The second rattle is more elusive - it's in the beam at the top of the seat, on the passenger side. The rattle is actually a click, and I can reproduce it by hitting the bottom of the beam with the palm of my hand. The beam sticks for half a second and then makes the click as it falls back in place - but I can't for the life of me figure out exactly where the sound is coming from. Does anyone know where this may be coming from?
Thanks.
