An engine rpm related whine indicates an unfiltered ground or Posted by MJM [Email] (#872) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MJM) on Tue, 6 Mar 2001 09:20:29 In Reply to: Maybe, jd, Mon, 5 Mar 2001 19:31:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
or unfiltered power source. I had that problem with the CD changer I installed in my old Scirocco. The car had no power accessories, so I tapped straight off the fuze box for power and ground and ended up with that same whine. The same changer in my SHO, tapped off accy power was crystal clear. Are you tapped in to raw power, or teeing off an accessory feed? I'm an ME, not an EE, so my understanding of noisy power is very limited, but this is a common problem. I believe the fix is to install an inline filter, either on power or ground. If you have a decent car audio shop nearby, go walk in and describe the problem, they should be able to prescribe the fix.
