Interesting that you asked. We have rain and thunderstorms forcast for today, Fiday and Monday. For Sat and Sun, the forecast is clear skys and mid 70's! So this is the weekend.

I did some preliminary work. I remove the plastic push in rivet that holds on the corner of the weather baffle where the tie rod penetrated the inner fender. And I went to Ace Harware, and got another meteric 8x1.5mm bolt for that location. It is located behind the strut, so drilling it larger from either side is not reasonable. I used a tapered reamer to enlarge the hole to the side of the tread root diameter, then I used an 8x1.5 tap to cut threads through the inner fender. So when I put the bolt through that, the play will be very minor. I will remove undercoating from the wheel side. I don't know if I will remove the paint. So everything seems to be at hand.

I have seen reports that Abbott does not supply a bolt for the fender location in the past. I did not get one. But they supplied a plated nut to use at that location with a nylon insert! I will be using locktite blue in all locations, and under bolt heads and washers etc. I will probably also wrap the bolt with some shim stock as it passes throught the brace bar, at each end, to take out the play there. I will have to see how the brace bar fits up to make a call on that. It will probably not be dead center to center anyways. But is bolting up to some metal that will flex itself, so this is not a classic mechanical bolted joint. Someone should put a strain guage on the bracebar and get some dynamic readings to see if it is doing anything.
